This dynamic, called the "Istanbul process," notably discusses the implementation of a resolution of the UN Human Rights Council resolution 16/18 as well as the Rabat Plan of Action, a road map adopted after a series of regional expert consultations held by the OHCHR to explore legislative patterns, judicial practices and policies conducive to effectively prohibit and prevent the advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence, while protecting the right to freedom of expression.
In Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on 3-4 June 2015, the Organisation of the Islamic Conference will host the 5th session of the Istanbul Process, to which FIDH will participate.
In this position paper released for that occasion, FIDH spells out key challenges to addressing violence and hatred against individuals on grounds of their religion and makes recommendations to States.
