TURKEY: Supreme Court overturns life sentence against Pınar Selek

After 16 years, 4 trials and countless procedural irregularities, the accusations against the famous sociologist, well-known for her commitment towards the rights of minorities in Turkey, remain unfounded, and the Supreme Court has now overturned her life-sentence.In 1998, Pınar Selek was accused of supporting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and terrorism.
FIDH has conducted several judicial observation missions highlighting procedural irregularities and participated in the mobilization of the international community against the continued and unwarranted judicial harassment aimed at Pinar Selek. The case will be re-tried for the fifth time.
