Muharrem Erbey is a human rights lawyer, writer and vice-president of the Human Rights Association (IHD), an FIDH member organisation. He has been imprisoned under the Anti-Terror Law since December 2009 charged with “membership of an illegal organization”, the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK).
The award was accepted on his behalf by his wife and children at a ceremony in Oslo. The jailed human rights defender sent a letter of thanks from prison “on behalf of all the jailed authors, human right defenders and all the jailed Kurds."
