Greece: EP publishes a study on the impact of the crisis on fundamental rights

The study, requested by the European Parliament’s Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee (LIBE), analyses the impact that the economic crisis and austerity measures have had on a number of fundamental rights in Greece and presents a series of recommendations.

The findings of this study both reflect and largely integrate the findings of the FIDH report “Greece Report unveils human rights violations stemming from austerity policy” published in December 2014, which followed a mission of investigation carried out by our members in Greece. The report shows that economic hardship and austerity measures have threatened human rights and democratic standards across different sectors, from social and economic rights, to civil and political ones. Furthermore, it points out the responsibilities that national and international institutions, particularly the EU and its member states bear for such violations.
