18 February 2015 — The United Nations Special Rapporteurs on the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ahmed Shaheed, and on extrajudicial executions, Christof Heyns, today publicly urged the Islamic Republic of Iran to immediately halt the execution of Saman Naseem, a juvenile offender scheduled to be executed tomorrow.

FIDH and its Iranian partner organisations, the League for the Defence of Human Rights in Iran (LDDHI) and the Defenders of Human Rights Center (DHRC), issued a press release yesterday calling for the immediate repeal of Naseem’s death sentence, which is illegal under international human rights law. Our organisations also contacted the UN Special Rapporteurs Shaheed and Heyns requesting they intervene to stop Naseem’s execution.

FIDH, LDDHI, and DHRC renew their call on the Iranian authorities to halt Naseem’s execution and repeal the death penalty for all juvenile offenders.
