In November 2013, the 68th session of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found the detention of brothers Khosro Kordpour and Massoud Kordpour arbitrary and requested their immediate release with appropriate reparation.

Respectively editor and correspondent for the Mukrian News Agency, which covers human rights violations, they were arrested in March 2013. The UN found their trial was “flawed in a number of respects” and that “a number of Iranian laws and policies (…) are not in conformity with the right to freedom of expression and access to information under international law”. Both were heavily sentenced and remain detained in Mahabad prison.

FIDH, who seized the UN WGAD of this case, calls upon the Iranian authorities to implement it immediately and unconditionally.
