The first submission, jointly prepared with the Cambodian Human Rights and Development Association (ADHOC), Même droits pour Tous (MDT), Observatorio Ciudadano, and Peru Equidad, focuses on the human rights and environmental impacts stemming from investment and infrastructure projects implemented by Chinese companies abroad. Some of the operations of these overseas Chinese companies also contribute to climate change. The submission draws information from cases involving operations of Chinese companies in Cambodia, Chile, Guinea, and Peru.
The second submission, jointly prepared with the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT), documents the deteriorating human rights situation in Tibet, pursuant to Beijing’s “sinicization” agenda under the pretense of “national unity.” Issues of concern detailed in the submission include: forced relocation and resettlement programs; harmful boarding schools’ systems; coercive labor programs and labor transfer; repression of freedom of religion; the rapid disappearance of the Tibetan language; and arbitrary detention, torture, and ill-treatment.
The third submission, prepared with the Database Center for North Korean Human Rights (NKDB), addresses the detention of North Korean refugees in China who are forcibly returned to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), and outlines the treatment of the undocumented North Korean women living in China, who are particularly susceptible to human rights abuses in the form of trafficking and forced marriages.
