On 31 October, the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) examined the case of Guinea.

FIDH and its member organization in Guinea, OGDH together with several Guinean organisations (MDT, AVIPA, CODDH) prepared an alternative report. A mission to Geneva led by two representatives of the Guinean civil society Mrs Nowaï Simone Kourouma and Mr Abdoul Gadiry submitted these recommendations to the Committee and to the diplomatic representations in Geneva. The recommendations focused mainly on the fight against impunity in cases of sexual violence, female genital mutilation and discriminatory legislation.

CEDAW adopted all the recommendations in its report as a result of this action by FIDH and the Guinean organizations, which will be monitoring the Penal Code Reform Commission and the Victims Commission that were set up by the Ministry of Justice, especially at the national level; to ensure that the State implements the recommendations and thus contributes to protecting women’s rights, in compliance with Guinea’s international obligations.
