At its 55th ordinary session, the African Commission for Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) has adopted two major resolutions condemning the persistence of crimes of sexual violence in Africa.
The recommendations in these resolutions for the member states echo the ones formulated by the FIDH, in particular, the adoption of adequate legal measures to fight effectively against the impunity of the perpetrators of sexual violence and the adoption of reparatory measures for the victims. FIDH and its member organisations in DRC, emphasised in a report published in October 2013 that in "DRC: the victims of sexual crimes rarely obtain justice and never reparation - change the cards in the fight against impunity". FIDH will continue advocating together with its member organisations to ensure that and enjoin the African States to implement the Resolutions of the African Commission.
