In 2014, ahead of a dense period of elections on the African continent (52 elections, including 25 presidential elections between 2014 and 2016), FIDH gathered together dozens of African and international civil society organisations to create the coalition "My vote must count." The Coalition aims to prevent the manipulation, fraud and abuse that results from flawed elections. The Coalition calls on governments to respect the people’s legitimate right to freely choose their representatives in free, fair, and transparent elections. "My vote must count" is active on the ground, but also uses political advocacy in the lead up to each poll in order to achieve its goals.
