Paris, February 19, 2015 – Four cartoonists from the organisation Cartooning for Peace, including president and founder, Plantu, “lent their pencils” to FIDH in order to illustrate the actions undertaken by the international organisation of defense of human rights in 2014.

Since 2011, FIDH has produced a version of its annual report in comic strip form, a unique way to present its work and the successes of the past year.

The four artists from Cartooning for Peace who participated in this year’s annual report are Boligan (Mexico), Plantu (France), Cristina Sampaio (Portugal), and Willis from Tunis (Tunisia). All other drawings were done by Romain Ronzeau, who has played a central role on this project since 2011.

In releasing this publication, FIDH would like to pay tribute to the courageous work done by the artists and cartoonists who, everyday, everywhere in the world, face threats and obscurantism. Their work is essential, and we must protect it said Karim Lahidji, FIDH president.

Political cartoons make us laugh. Without them, our lives would be quite sad. But this is also a serious matter - they have the power to inform, but also to offend observed Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary General.
