The whole world is mobilising as the new president of the United States is getting prepared to implement the violently sexist, lesbophobic, homophobic, xenophobic and racist ideology he defended during his campaign. His choice for the Supreme Court is William Pryor, a judge who considers abortion to be "the worst abomination" in legal history. His vice president, Mike Pence, openly espouses creationist ideas. His main advisor, Steve Bannon, publishes hateful racist and misogynist messages on his website. He also wants to destroy ObamaCare, the health insurance law.
This reactionary policy at work today in the United States is the concretization of a much wider phenomenon in the world. Conservative political parties, pro-life and religious groups regularly challenge women’s rights, including sexual and reproductive rights, which are core rights for the emancipation of women.
On January 21st, we will march in Washington, Medellin, Durban, Riyad, Belgrade, Kolkata or Osaka in solidarity with American women, because defending women’s rights in the United States is defending women’s rights all over the world. We will march against incitement to hatred, sexist attitudes, discrimination, misogyny and patriarchy. This march is open to all, and everyone in the world is welcome.
