Women’s Rights

Despite the multiplication of commitments at the international level, women continue to suffer from discrimination, in law and in practice, in all regions of the world. On the basis of the Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women (CEDAW), adopted by the United Nations in 1979 and now ratified by almost all states in the world, the International Federation for Human Rights campaigns for reforms to guarantee women’s equal rights in law. FIDH and its members and partners have launched two regional campaigns: «Equality without reservation» in the Middle East, North Africa and the Gulf and «Africa for Women’s Rights: Ratify and respect!».

FIDH and its members also focus on fighting impunity for crimes of sexual violence, in particular in periods of conflict when they continue to be perpetrated on a massive scale, through investigations and legal actions.
