Editorial by Patrick Baudouin
Dear readers,
Information accountability, action: These are the objectives of the new Letter of the FIDH of which you have the first issue today.
A new format, more spaced out, a range of headings, every two months. This new formula is the fruit of an appraisal by the whole FIDH team. The primary objective is to meet your expectations better by providing clearer information.
The FIDH has, for many years, considerably developed its activities, increased its effectiveness and its reputation and strengthened its international representativity. Following on from that, it was essential for our organisation to acquire a modern medium of communication, attractive and more readable, which reflects the large network which we have built over the years.
Under the heading "Leagues in Action", we shall make a point of reflecting the activities of our 105 member organisations, which will incidentally be pressed to provide information to enable you to be better informed about situations which are not at the forefront of media attention. We shall also provide you with analyses on the five priority action themes identified at the triennial FIDH Congress: the protection of Human Rights defenders, the struggle against impunity, promoting Women's Rights, and action for the respect of Economic and Social Rights and the universality of Human Rights. And the gravity of the situations addressed must never make us forget the tremendous hope which the defenders represent; the new Letter of the FIDH will offer you accounts of experiences and real life stories which have advanced the Human Rights cause.
Please let us have your views on the new FIDH Letter. I hope you like our new publication.
Patrick Baudouin
President of the FIDH
