This young Tunisian was the first opinion prisoner in Tunisia after the revolution. In 2012 he was sentenced to 7-1/2 years in prison for publishing a cartoon deemed “offensive to Islam”. Jabeur Mejri was pardoned by President Marzouki on 13 February and finally released on 5 March. FIDH and many other organisations [1]actively support this cause. The FIDH President, Karim Lahidji, visited Mejri in his prison cell and called for his immediate release. The supporting organisations are staying on their guard because Jabeur is being prosecuted in another case that falls under common law.
