Raji Sourani, Director of the NGO Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), an FIDH member today received the Right Livelihood Award which was presented at the Swedish Parliament to honour “his determination to defend the principles of the rule of law and human rights in extremely difficult circumstances”. The Right Livelihood Award is often called the “Alternative Nobel Award”.

That same day, the Rafto Foundation awarded the Rafto Prize to the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights (BCHR), for its efforts to defend human rights in the Golf Region. The BCHR is the FIDH member league in Bahrain. Its president, Nabeel Rajab is serving a 2-year prison sentence for having encouraged peaceful demonstrations. Its President, Nabeel Rajib, an FIDH Deputy Secretary, is currently serving a two-year sentence at the central prison of Bahrain (JAW) for calling for peaceful demonstrations.
