At the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council, an oral statement marked by a moment of silence paid tribute to the memory of Chinese activist Cao Shunli, who died in detention ten years ago. 37 NGOs - 17 organisations accredited to the UN and 20 NGOs without ECOSOC status - including FIDH, sponsored this solemn tribute. The signatories urge the international community to hold the individuals and institutions responsible for Ms Cao Shunli’s death to account, and to end all acts of reprisals and repressive measures seeking to restrict civic space and prevent activists from engaging with the UN.
