Astra Agro Lestari in Indonesia: Procter & Gamble, Nestlé, Hershey’s and Colgate-Palmolive suspend business amidst human rights abuses

7 October 2022. Four of the world’s largest consumer goods companies – Procter & Gamble, Nestlé, Hershey’s and Colgate-Palmolive – announced they have suspended business with Indonesian palm oil company Astra Agro Lestari (AAL).

International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) along with Indigenous Peoples, civil society, and community-based organisations around the world signed-on an open letter calling in September 2022 on these companies to disengage, denouncing ongoing criminalisation, human rights abuses, and land grabbing against local farmers, land and environmental human rights defenders, and communities by your palm oil supplier Astra Agro Lestari (AAL) and its subsidiary PT Mamuang in Central and West Sulawesi, Indonesia.
