DRC: Complaint filed in Senegal against Paul Mwilambwe in Chebeya/Bazana case.

Under the mechanism of universal jurisdiction, applied here for the first time in Africa, Senegal will initiate judicial proceedings against ex-DRC policeman Paul Mwilambwe. A former member of General Numbi’s infamous PNC (National Congolese Police), Mwilambwe claims to have witnessed the assassinations of human rights defenders Floribert Chebeya and Fidèle Bazana in June 2010.
FIDH lead a judicial mission of enquiry and, on June 2, the legal team filed the civil action on behalf of the families which was formally received by the Senegalese court on June 18. In their press conference, FIDH lawyers underlined the importance of this case in the fight against impunity in Africa.
