FIDH, which supported the film, was pleased with the decision of the Minister of Arts and Culture to include the film in the “Écrans Noirs” (Black Screens) festival in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
From the beginning, the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, a joint FIDH-OMCT programme, fought this censorship and sharply denounced such actions whose only goal is to sanction activities stemming from Thierry Michel’s right to freedom of speech. He is merely trying to contribute to establishing facts and accountability in the June 2010 assassination of Floribert Chebeya Bazire, Executive Director of the “Voix des Sans Voix” (the Voice of the Voiceless, VSV) and member of the General Assembly of OMCT, and Fidèle Bazana Edadi, member and driver for VSV. “ This was quite a victory for the cinema world, freedom of speech and for the human rights defenders who are especially concerned by this film ” added Thierry Michel.
