ACAT-France, CCFD-Terre solidaire and FIDH were invited by Togolese civil society to come together to analyse the evolution of the political and human rights situation over the last 10 years, and to reflect on issues of the upcoming presidential election scheduled for early 2015. Togolese civil society organisations (CSOs) want to help nurture in-depth discussions in the next election to make substantial progress in the life of Togolese citizens.

This ACAT-France, CCFD – Terre solidaire, and FIDH mission stayed in the capital Lomé from 28 May to 4 June 2014 and met with a wide range of interlocutors, including, political and religious authorities, national and international institutions for the promotion and defence of human rights, international embassies, political parties, NGOs, trade unions, and journalists.

A report of the Togolese civil society on the record of the past 10 years will be published a few months before the presidential election with specific recommendations to candidates. ACAT-France, CCFD – Terre solidaire, and FIDH will provide assistance in the publication of this report and in the international advocacy work around it.
