| On
the occasion of the Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Meeting in
Marseille, the above mentioned human rights organizations jointly
invite the international media to a press conference on the results
and failures of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership.
Wednesday
15 November 2000
At 10.00 am
CLUB DU VIEUX PORT
PLACE AUX HUILES
13001 MARSEILLE
In a
"White Book" available at the press conference, nine
human rights organizations will take stock of the pressing human
rights concerns left unsolved in five years of dialogue between
the EU and its 12 Mediterranean partners. Human rights defenders
remain under attack. Dissident voices are silenced. Torture
and ill-treatment prevail. Women face discrimination and violence.
Refugees are left at the mercy of the prosecutors. Systematic
human rights violations are perpetuated by impunity. What have
the 27 EUROMED governments done to achieve the respect for human
rights and fundamental freedoms that they solemnly declared
at the launch of their partnership in 1995?
The panel
of the press conference will consist of :
Mahmoud
Ben Romdhane
Amnesty International
Patrick Baudouin
International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH)
Nathalie Mivelaz
Organisation Mondiale Contre la Torture (OMCT)
Robert Ménard
Reporters sans frontières.
