Tunisia : Call for solidarity

Dear friends,

Tunisia is experiencing an extraordinary period in its history.
The dictatorship has fallen and the unprecedented hope of building a democratic country is no longer just a dream.
However, there is still a long way to go before this is achieved.

As a member of the International Board and as an FIDH member organisation, we are counting on your support:

1/ To express your solidarity with FIDH’s three member organisations in Tunisia :
- the Ligue Tunisienne des droits de l’Homme (LTDH - Tunisian League for Human Rights)
- the Association Tunisienne des Femmes Démocrates (ATFD - Tunisian Association of Democratic Women),
- the Conseil National pour les Libertés en Tunisie (CNLT - National Council for Liberties in Tunisia) that are in the front line of a revolution based on the defence and safeguard of human rights, you can post below your messages of solidarity with the Tunisian member organisations

2/ To get the largest number of States to express their support for the Tunisian people’s march towards democracy.

We are, of course, aware that you may be facing emergency situations and dealing with the various activities of your own organisations, but now is the moment to express this inter-league solidarity in favour of our Tunisian friends, without whom FIDH would not be what it is today.

Please do not hesitate to contact your representative in the Secretariat in this regard.

For your information, various facts and information regarding the situation, published by FIDH over the past weeks, can be found in the special feature on our website , including a web chat on le Monde.fr

Thank you in advance for both your solidarity and your support.

The achievement of the Tunisian people at this time is an inspiration to us all. I hope that Tunisia will continue to grow in the spirit of true democracy and respect for the rule of law.

Free elections are just the first important step for what I hope will be a better life for all the Tunisian people whose human rights must be respected and upheld! You have the respect and support of not only the international human rights community, but also of ordinary people who want a higher standard of living and more accountability from their own governments.

I salute the people of Tunisian who fight for democracy and human rights. I would like to mention that we are supporting and proud of human rights activists who take active part in these resistance movements. In 21th century, there should not be any regime not based on the human rights. It is clear that the Tunisian people who revolt against dictatorship and abandon your lives in this way gave the World a lesson of freedom.

I also like to support the organization of LTDH, ATFD and CNLT in their leading role in this people uprising movement to remove authoritarian leader from his power, it’s a great success of civil society movement in African region and world-wide.
