FIDH welcomes the arrest in Serbia on 20 July and the transfer to the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) on 22 July of Goran Hadžić, the last fugitive under an international arrest warrant issued by the ICTY. This seems to confirm the commitment of the Serbian authorities towards greater cooperation with the Tribunal and represents a milestone in the completion strategy of the ICTY.

Hadžić is accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in eastern Slavonia (Croatia) from August 1991 to June 1992, as a former President of the Government of the self-proclaimed Serbian Autonomous District of Slavonia, Baranja and Western Srem (SAO SBWS) and subsequently President of the Republic of Serbian Krajina (RSK). He appeared for the first time on 25 July before the judges of the ICTY Trial Chamber II.
