The Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, a joint programme created in 1997 by the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), has the following objectives:
  • to provide emergency protection to human rights defenders in the field (urgent interventions, international missions, material assistance),
  • to cooperate with national, regional and international intergovernmental protection mechanisms, and
  • to mobilise the international community and the media as protection agents for defenders.
