FIDH is working for the improved justiciability of economic, social and cultural (ESC) rights. FIDH considers that all human rights are indivisible, indissociable and interdependent as was recalled in 1993 by the Vienna Declaration and Program of Action. FIDH supports that that economic, social and cultural rights are justiciable and that States have direct obligations to respect, protect and fulfil ESC rights.
FIDH organizes fact-finding missions on ESC rights, uses the ESC rights protection mechanisms (European Committee of Social Rights, UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural rights…). FIDH is engaged in the campaign for the ratification of the optional protocol to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, which was adopted on 10 December 2009.
