Transnational corporations play a growing role on the world economic scene and the impact of their methods and activities on the respect and promotion of human rights is increasingly recognised. Indeed, transnational companies have greatly benefited from globalization, at the same time as States have lost part of their decision making power. The growing political role of transnational corporations is particularly important insomuch as they benefit from quasi-total impunity regarding their actions, in particular in the human rights’ field. FIDH denounces behaviour of companies which violate human rights. FIDH participates in the work of intergovernmental organisations, such as the UN or the European Union, in favour of imposing standards for the respect of human rights by transnational corporations.
